SHORE OAKS SEASIDE INN, AN AUTHENTIC ARTS & CRAFTS STYLE MAINE COAST COTTAGE.
A taste of old Maine, this historic coastal inn whispers RELAX. Let your senses be your guide!
Very much like when it was built in 1907, this simple and elegant inn whispers, "relax..." In the summer, soft breezes nudge along the comforting scents of sea air and woodland pine. Seagulls tiptoe over rocks or float lightly in air currents overhead. Just across Eggemoggin Reach and toward the setting sun, is Pumpkin Island Lighthouse. First time visitors pause at their first glimpse. The view is breathtaking!
At high tide, waves come right under the gazebo where it is possible to hear seals splashing just inches away! Shore Oaks is built of stone rounded by time on the ocean's edge, by excellent craftsmen experienced in shipbuilding at a time when the Arts and Crafts movement was sweeping across America. Much of the original oak furnishings remain, others have been added to add to the authenticity. The integrity of the shipbuilders' honest labor and simple design remains intact today.
Shore Oaks has a spacious interior. The living room is a graciously and simply decorated gathering place with a weathered stone fireplace, comfortable upholstered Arts and Crafts oak furniture, wicker chairs, window seats, and large oceanfront windows. The atmosphere is informally elegant and beautifully detailed. There is a library full of prized old photographs, prints, area maps, and vintage books--gifts of past guests and family members spanning a century. The dining rooms look out on Eggemoggin Reach just a few yards away. You might be lucky enough to have breakfast here in the early or late season.
Your reservation can be made with our full Shore Oaks' breakfast and dinner plan (overnight, breakfast and dinner) for an additional charge of $30/person/day (plus tax and gratuity). It is an excellent value. When guests see the menu most prefer to dine at our Rusticator Restaurant and not fuss with driving to find exceptional dining elsewhere. We are licensed to serve wine and beer in the dining room and have a fine selection of local and imported beers and wines. Arrangements ahead of time will put a bottle of wine or a refreshing local brew in your room prior to your arrival. We suggest you reserve your dinner plan (and beach lobster picnic) when you reserve your vacation. Kitchen facilities are not available for guests to fix their own meals at Shore Oaks.
The ten bedrooms have unique personalities of their own. They are tastefully and simply appointed with original Arts and Crafts period furnishings. The mattresses and linens are upscale and comfortable. Once a private summer home the ten bedrooms have unique personalities of their own.
Purposely, there are no televisions or telephones in the rooms. There is a single public telephone as well as a dedicated phone line in the third floor office for Shore Oaks’ guests with laptops. There are phone jacks, electrical outlets, desk, comfortable seating, and lighting. Service is dial up at this time. High speed WiFi is available nearby at the Blue Hill Library. The Oakland House Hotel office has a fax machine and will send and receive guest faxes.
![[A room with a fireplace.]](images/seaside_inn_room_7.jpg) Most rooms have individually controlled heat. Seven rooms have private baths. Two bedrooms have real wood burning fireplaces. On the porch, guests gather to relax in old-fashioned rocking chairs to soak up the spectacular view. A picturesque lighthouse and passing schooners and sailboats make this well worth the trip. The sunsets against a backdrop of the Camden Hills and the glistening water of East Penobscot Bay make this a jewel of a location in which to watch a sunset.

What Other People Say:

Downeast Classic. "The front porch of Shore Oaks, with its motley collection of unmatched rocking hairs, baskets of fresh-cut flowers and a view of the famed Eggemoggin Reach, can make you cry, it's so classic-Maine beautiful." Sunday Eagle-Tribune, September 25, 2005
”This is old Maine, and long may it last.” Sunday Eagle-Tribune, September 25, 2005.
Coastal Living's September, 2004 issue; "Lodges We Love, Our Top 20."
”The breakfast hour seascape...is incomparably beautiful and incredibly inviting: a paddler’s paradise just begging to be experienced...” Maine Sunday Telegram,
Shore Oaks has been an inspiration to many. While it has been written about in novels, some travel writers call it "the best kept secret of the region." It is well off the beaten track, yet most definitely worth taking the road that leads to Herricks Landing, Maine (at Oakland House Seaside Resort, Brooksville, Maine).
